The old Lady... Chassis Rivets

Bugger I have a sore hand now!!

I've been removing the rivets from the chassis tonight using a cold chisel. And guess what yep I hit my hand with a 3lb hammer in full swing, now left with a sore and swollen left hand!!

If your going to try this at home then take some advise here we go.

Removel of rivets from the chassis...

"The way to do this is to use a cold chisel ~3/8 wide and a 3lb ball pein hammer, should only take a few blows to knock each head off but takes a bit of practice (wear huge leather gloves and fit a few 6" discs of carpet with holes in the middle over the end of the chisel so you ain't too worried by the prospect of hitting your hand while trying that hard)."

The Old Lady.. c.

For an 80 year old, the body is in very good condition. Although most of the corrosion has happened where the Ali and Steel have come into contact with each other. There are a few cracks in the body. But it's the floor pan that is suffering the most unfortunately, the steel has stretched and cracked mainly on the passengers side.

The Old Lady.. b.

Below are a few pic's of the chassis, the main problem areas are loose rivets and cracks in both chassis legs (front and rear). The next step is removing the rivets using a cold chisel and then carefully grinding off the old repair welds.

The other problem is the chassis is bent on both legs (just over 1/2inch on the drivers side), and to bend it back requires a very careful technique. Watch this space!!

The Old Lady..

Well after 80 year of fun, and laughter the time has come to dismantle 'Alice'. so here goes. I'll try and keep a record of whats happening and whats wrong.
The main problems were the body had cracked below and behind the doors and the chassi is cracked, rivets loose and worse is the chassi is badly bent.
Let's hope theres nothing more but I do expect more..

chummy's clutch

Well that's it the clutch release bearing housing has worn through and we're in nethy bridge! Could always take the engine out but the rains coming down. So it's making driving more intersting and fun. Another item to add to the list to fix it's just as well as she's 80 this year.
